Frequently Asked Questions
What is a concrete protection liner?
A concrete protection liner is a plastic sheet embedded into concrete during the pour, bonding permanently to the surface to shield it from corrosion, chemical attack, and mechanical damage. US Fusion installs HDPE and PVDF embed liners in trenches, sumps, manholes, catch basins, and storage tanks across industrial, municipal, and civil applications.
What thickness of concrete protective liner is needed?
US Fusion supplies concrete protective liners from 2.0mm to 12.0mm thick. Thickness is selected based on abrasion exposure, impact risk, chemical aggressiveness, and required service life. Light duty containment surfaces use thinner liners, while sumps and trenches handling abrasive slurries or acids call for the heavier end of the range.
How do concrete protection liners prevent structural damage?
Concrete cracks and spalls under impact because its crystalline structure cannot flex. A polymer liner absorbs and distributes that force instead. It also blocks the sulfates, chlorides, acids, and microbial byproducts that corrode concrete and attack embedded rebar, which is the mechanism behind most premature failures in wastewater and process structures.
Can embedded liners be installed on existing concrete?
Embed liners bond best when cast into new concrete against formwork. For existing structures, US Fusion evaluates the substrate and can weld to and repair existing embedded liners, or recommend polyurea spray installation where an embed system is no longer feasible. Certified welding technicians handle repair, testing, and extension of installed liners.
How are concrete protective liners tested after installation?
Installed liners are spark tested along welded seams to confirm there are no pinholes or discontinuities in the barrier. US Fusion performs welding, repair, and testing on new and existing embedded plastic liners with certified welding technicians on staff, so verification happens before the structure is placed in service.
